We all need a little extra support when things feel difficult. I provide a supportive, friendly, and judgment-free environment to help you through any challenges you may experience. Therapy is not a singular thing I can bestow apon you, but is a collaborative and transactional process guided by your goals, my skills and expertise, and what you bring into session.
I see therapy as an investment in yourself. I value that investment and do not want to waste your time or hard-earned money. If I feel that another provider or approach may better meet your needs, I will let you know and do my best to connect you with other options.
Below are some of the main modalities I am trained in and have experience implementing with clients ages 16 and up.
CBT is a highly effective and popular form of talk therapy used to treat anxiety and mood disorders that involves identifying and changing negative patterns of thought and behavior. We work on challenging and reframing our negative thoughts through CBT, developing coping strategies for difficult situations, and improving overall well-being. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) incorporates the same concepts while helping process traumatic experiences.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy technique that can help treat symptoms of trauma, anxiety, and other issues. During EMDR, we use eye movements, sounds, or tapping techniques that engage both sides of the brain while recalling traumatic memories. This process helps desensitize the traumatic memory and allows the nervous system to reprocess it more adaptively. EMDR has been heavily researched, and while evidence clearly shows its positive effects, we don't yet understand the exact mechanism of how it works. The experience can be intense in releasing heavy emotional content at once. However, it has become increasingly popular because people report feeling better quickly. I find it can be a helpful tool in addition to more traditional forms of talk therapy to help people process memories that seem to be keeping them stuck.
While CPP is designed to treat young children and their parents who have experienced trauma, I find that the psychodynamic and attachment theories incorporated in CPP are often helpful to explore in treating mental health issues in individuals of all ages. As an Infant and Early Childhood Therapist, I see firsthand how much childhood experiences and early learning shape our self-concept and relational patterns throughout the lifespan. In your work with me, chances are good that we will explore your past relationships to inform the healing work we do together.
